Water Filters

I was slightly horrified to hear on the BBC radio (of course not much in US) that Dasani (made by Coca Cola) and Aquafina (Pepsi) bottled waters were nothing more than filtered water. Actually 40% of all brands are doing this. Talk about deceptive marketing. I am sure most people think they are drinking spring water. Filtered water is fine, but let’s not pay a premium price for it. In fact, by installing a simple water purifier on your tap, you can save so much for the environment as well as in your pocket book. Here are a few facts to get you motivated. In the US, 10 million barrels of oil are used to bottle water annually. That doesn’t even account for getting the water here, thinking about Fiji water. Americans throw away 22 billion water bottles each year. It takes about 1,000 years for the average water bottle to biodegrade. This Old House has a how-to-demonstration for you to put on your own water filter which can help you save money and the environment.
