Green Couture from Chair Couture
Imagery is showing up quite a bit in home decor these days, often with designs inspired by nature. Images of nature and organic textures like bark, embellish classic furnishings and accessories like candles, lampshades, and occasional tables. Margaret Elman, owner of Chair Couture has created a beautifully refined interpretation of this phenomenon with her new seating/bedding collection. Known for her creative pairing of vintage French chairs with witty fabrics, her new collection reflects a calmer, more organic spin on vintage furniture revival. The colors are fresh and beautiful, and her skilled eye for scale make these pieces instant classics. The “green” direction is not merely lip service, as her items are all vintage, and upholstered in recycled polyester or organic cotton. The public is quickly discovering her talents with editor Marianne Rohrlich’s recent highlight in the New York Times Thursday “Currents” section (11/08/07).
